Enrolment issues

If you see an error message when trying to enrol, this information explains why, and who can help you.

These issues can occur if you last studied with us some years ago, and your details haven’t been added to our new system.

We’re making changes to prevent these issues in the future, but in the short term - here’s what to do if you see a login error message for:

Logging in

Duplicated account

Error message: You cannot be authenticated due to duplicate credentials.

You may see this message if you are returning student who last studied with us before 2019.

Action to take

Contact the Service Desk for help, by email servicedesk@vuw.ac.nz or call 04 463 5050.

Former students who have forgotten/can't use your previous account

If you previously studied at Te Herenga Waka but don't remember your student account details, or are getting an error message when trying to access your former account

Action to take

Contact the Service Desk on 04 463 5050, and they will update your details in our system.

Not eligible to enrol

Error message: You are not currently eligible to enrol for any programmes.

You may see this message on your enrolment if you are:

  • A current student who has logged in on your non-myvuw account.
  • A returning student who is not eligible to enrol in any programmes because your last year of study was more than two years earlier.
  • A new student who has not yet applied for admission; or who has applied for admission but hasn’t accepted your Offer of Place.

Action to take

Make sure you’re logged into the correct account. Some students have signed up for multiple accounts, and you can only enrol with the account that is eligible for enrolment.

  • New students: check the status of your admission in Pūaha – you must apply for admission and accept your Offer of Place before you can apply to enrol.
  • Returning students: contact the Service Centre by email info@vuw.ac.nz or call 0800 04 04 04, or your adviser to ensure your student record is up to date.

Microsoft pick an account message

Message showing that a user can't sign in as the user account does not exist in tenant "Victoria University of Wellington" and cannot access the application.

Error message: Pick an account / trouble with signing you in.

You may see this message if :

  • You are a returning student who hasn’t studied with us since 2019.
  • Your computer or browser is already logged in to a Microsoft program with a different account

Action to take

Log out of all accounts and clear your cookies, or log in using an incognito window and your:

  • myvuw account (former and current students)
  • personal email (new students who have not yet been enrolled).

Email address has already been used

Error message: This email address has already been used to register an account. Please go back to the previous page and log in.

Your email is already connected to a University account.

You may see this message if you are:

  • A current (or newly enrolled) student who has a VUW student account.
  • Using your personal credentials (Gmail or Facebook) to log in, instead of your VUW username and password.

Action to take

Go back to the previous page and log in using your existing account.

If you’ve forgotten your student account details or definitely don’t have an account, contact the Service Centre by email info@vuw.ac.nz or call 0800 04 04 04.

Using our enrolment system

You see the same programme or major twice and can’t proceed

You may see your programme doubled up and the message, “You cannot select the same programme more than once”.

Action to take

Contact the Service Centre by email info@vuw.ac.nz or call 0800 04 04 04.

Incorrect major or degree listed in enrolment

You see the programme that you were previously enrolled in to continue enrolment. If you need to make a change to your programme, see the options below.

Action to take

Postgraduate programmes or Undergraduate programmes with a selection process

These programmes have specific entry requirements, which means that applications for admission must be assessed by academic staff before admission is granted.

For these programmes, you will need to apply for admission through Pūaha.

Open-entry programmes

Current students

  • If you have enrolled in 2021 or 2022, and want to change your programme or major, contact your Student Success Adviser to discuss the change. Complete your enrolment application with your intended course while we review your request.

Future students

  • request a change in programme via the “Change Programme” tab in Pūaha. Complete your enrolment application with your intended courses while we review your request.

Error message: User account @myvuw does not exist in tenant

You may see this message if you are a returning student.

Action to take

  • If your last year of study at Te Waka Herenga was 2019 and your account was connected to the enrolment system in October 2022, try loggng in again.
  • If your last year of study was before 2019 or you are unsuccessfully trying to log in, contact the Service Desk on 04 463 5050, and they will add your details to the system.

Blank screen when trying to enrol

Some students experienced a blank screen when trying to enrol at enrol.wgtn.ac.nz from 3 – 8 November.

This issue is resolved and we’ve emailed the students who may have been affected to say that they can now access the enrolment system.

If you experienced this issue after 9 November, contact the Service Desk servicedesk@vuw.ac.nz or call 04 463 5050 with your myvuw account details.
