New Students’ Orientation
Nau mai, haere mai, welcome. Each trimester, the University runs New Students’ Orientation to welcome all new students and get you off to the best start.
Whether you're coming straight from school, returning to study as a mature student, starting your first degree, transferring from another tertiary institution, or beginning a postgraduate qualification—these events are here to support your journey from day one.
Trimester 1, 2026
Your orientation experience begins in February if you're starting your studies in Trimester 1 next year.
New Students' Orientation week—Monday 16 February to Friday 20 February—is your chance to explore our campuses, meet new people, and get set for a confident start to university life. Not sure what to expect? You can get an idea of what’s on offer and start making plans now.
Save the dates
Pasifika Orientation begins on Wednesday 11 February with a welcome for new students and their ‘āiga. It’s a chance to meet Te Herenga Waka Pasifika Pillars, connect with other new students, and start preparing for the year ahead.
First-year halls residents move in on Sunday 9 February, and Tau Mai kicks off the next day. Tau Mai is designed to help give you a solid foundation to begin your first year of study and settle you into your new hall and home in Wellington City.
