Architecture and Design

Find out what the selection criteria and limitations are for programmes offered by the Architecture and Design Faculty.

If you're currently studying in your first year or wanting to apply directly into second-year of the Bachelor of Architectural Studies (BAS) and Bachelor of Design Innovation (BDI) degrees you'll need to ensure you meet the criteria for each programme.

Selection into second year

Selection into second year courses for the BAS and BDI is based on your academic performance in first-year core courses for the relevant programme. Entry generally requires good grades across all of these courses.

Transferring from another university

Applicants with relevant degrees, qualifications in related disciplines or extensive professional experience will also be considered for entry to the second year of the degree.

If you're a transferring student, check the relevant degree pages for selection criteria.

Selection committee

Selection into the second year of the BAS and BDI is made by a Selection Committee for each degree, members are appointed by the Head of School.

Appeal process

Appeals against the decisions of the Selection Committees should be directed in the first instance to the relevant Head of School.

Equity policy

Selection into second year courses is based on academic performance in the core first year courses for the relevant programme. Māori and Pasifika students are ranked as if their grade point average (GPA) for these courses is one point higher than calculated.
