Architecture

Find out what the selection criteria and limitations are for programmes offered by the School of Architecture.

Places are limited in the second year of the undergraduate architecture degree.

If you're currently studying in your first year or want to apply directly into the second year of the Bachelor of Architectural Studies (BAS) you'll need to ensure you meet the criteria for the programme.

Selection into second year

Selection into second-year courses for the BAS is based on your academic performance in first-year core courses. To be considered for selection, you will need to achieve a minimum average grade threshold of B (GPA 5.0) across SARC112 and your best five courses. Students below this threshold are not eligible for selection. Students eligible for selection are offered places based on a GPA ranking.

Māori and Pasifika applicants

To support access for Māori and Pasifika students, 10% of domestic places are held for Māori students and 5% for Pasifika students who meet the GPA requirements but would not otherwise receive an offer based on the GPA ranking.

Students with disabilities

The School also recognises that disability and neurodivergence can affect academic performance. Students who meet the minimal eligibility threshold may apply to the Head of School for additional consideration if they believe that disability related factors have affected their academic performance.

Transferring from another university

Applicants with relevant degrees, qualifications in related disciplines or extensive professional experience will also be considered for entry to the second year of the degree.

If you're a transferring student, you can find more information about the selection criteria on the relevant degree page.

Selection committee

Selection into the second year of the BAS is made by a Selection Committee. Members of the Committee are appointed by the Head of School.

Appeal process

Appeals against the decisions of the Selection Committees should be directed in the first instance to the relevant Head of School.
