Understanding your timetable

Learn about class types, lengths, and times, and how to access your personal timetable to see when and where the courses you're enrolled in will be held.

Accessing your timetable

The myTimetable tool is how you view your personal timetable of lectures, tutorials, labs and/or studios. You use the myAllocator tool to sign up for tutorials, labs, and studios.

Lectures

Lectures are normally 50 minutes long. Most courses have two or three lectures per week.

Lectures in Kelburn

Morning lectures in Kelburn campus start on the hour (up to and including 12 noon); afternoon lectures start at 10 minutes past the hour. This means you have 10 minutes to get between lectures, with a 20–minute break between morning and afternoon lectures (from 12.50pm to 1.10pm).

Lectures in Pipitea and Te Aro

Morning lectures held at Pipitea and Te Aro campuses start at 30 minutes after the hour; afternoon lectures start at 40 minutes after the hour.

Tutorials, labs and studios

In addition to your lectures you'll have either a:

  • 50–minute tutorial, or
  • three–hour lab or studio (most Science, Engineering and Architecture and Design courses).

These are smaller group-teaching sessions led by a tutor/lecturer to provide an opportunity for discussion, experiments, project work, and individual assistance.

Information about your tutorials, labs and studios will be in your course outline.

Signing up for your tutorials, labs and studios

You sign up to tutorials, labs and studios in the first week of each trimester using myAllocator.

Make a note of your tutorials on your printed copy of your timetable. Tutorials usually start two to three weeks into each trimester.

Streams

Large courses are divided into separate groups called streams. Your stream will be on your Confirmation of Study. You can change streams (subject to availability)—using the Add/Drop function in Student Records, or contact your Student Success team.
