Improving student experience
We want to ensure all students have a great experience at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington.
Each year we ask students to complete online surveys to give feedback on their time at the University. The insights from these surveys are used to inform decision making and improve student-focused initiatives.
2021 Graduate Destinations Survey
The purpose of the Graduate Destinations Survey is to gain information on the types and location of employment, the salary ranges, and the further study opportunities graduates may take up after completing their qualifications. The survey is conducted in Trimester 2 each year and gathers information from graduates who completed their studies between the beginning of July the previous year and the end of June the current year.
If you had your qualification granted between the beginning of July 2020 and the end of June 2021, we have now emailed you a link to complete this year’s Graduate Destinations Survey.
Complete the survey and you’ll go in the draw to win some great prizes. We will draw winners of $150 cash prizes on the following dates:
- Monday 27 September
- Monday 4 October
- Monday 11 October
All graduates who complete the survey by 11.59 pm on Sunday 17 October will also be entered into the prize draw of $500. Winners will be chosen at random and contacted by email.
YOU Student Wellbeing Survey 2021
The 2021 You Student Wellbeing Survey is a long-term project, which aims to understand more about how your wellbeing impacts the student experience by reaching out to students twice a year for each year they study at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington.
Waves 2, 4, and 6 of the survey will be sent to first-, second- and third-year undergraduate students on Monday 6 September.
It is especially important for us to understand how your wellbeing impacts your studies as we live through major events such as the current COVID-19 pandemic. Refer to our student services if you need any additional support. Insights from the survey will be used to help improve the University’s learning environment and support services.
We are sending this survey to three groups:
- Students who enrolled as undergraduates at the beginning of 2019 and were willing to be contacted again.
- Students who enrolled as undergraduates at the beginning of 2020 and were willing to be contacted again.
- Students who enrolled as undergraduates at the beginning of 2021, completed their first You Student Wellbeing Survey in April/May 2021 and were willing to be contacted again.
A link to the survey will be sent to you by email and you can complete it online from Monday 6 September to Sunday 19 September.
The survey should take 15 to 20 minutes to complete. The University will keep your identity confidential in line with its privacy notice and subject to the University’s legal obligations.
To say thanks for completing the survey, we are giving away four prizes of $100 to students in each wave (total of 12 $100 prizes) as well as three grand prizes of $500. Once you complete the survey, you’ll go into the draw and recipients will be selected at random.
The survey closes at 11.59 pm on Sunday 19 September.

Student Voice—Have Your Say Survey
In August, the Student Voice—Have Your Say survey is emailed to all undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The survey captures our students’ initial impressions of university experience so far this year, as well as asking about various aspects related to student life—academic and social experiences, learning within and outside the classroom, interaction with peers, managing time, services and spaces, technology, sustainability, pastoral care, and overall student wellbeing.
This year, the survey was emailed to all students on Monday 2 August.
If you have any questions, email your queries to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Student Voice—Getting Started
The Student Voice—Getting Started survey was sent to all new students in March 2021.
The survey aimed to capture our students’ initial impressions of life on campus, as well as ask about their enrolment and orientation experience.
The surveys are an important tool to help inform decision-making across the University and support a continuous cycle of improvement for current and future students.
COVID-19 Student Experience Survey
In May 2020, the COVID-19 Student Experience Survey was sent to all students at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington.
The aim of the survey was to learn more about the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on our students. Insights from the survey will help inform the continuous improvement of teaching and learning, research and the overall student experience at the University. We also want to understand the impact on your wellbeing, including the financial impact, so we can provide appropriate support and ensure the best possible outcomes for students.
Thank you for participating in this important survey. The results are on the student assessment of University performance during the COVID-19 pandemic page.
