Improving student experience
We want to ensure all students have a great experience at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington.
Each year we ask students to complete online surveys to give feedback on their time at the University. The insights from these surveys are used to inform decision making and improve student focused initiatives.
COVID-19 Student Experience Survey
The COVID-19 Student Experience Survey will soon be sent to all students at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington.
The aim of the survey is to learn more about the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on our students. Insights from the survey will help inform the continuous improvement of teaching and learning, research and the overall student experience at the University. We also want to understand the impact on your wellbeing, including the financial impact, so we can provide appropriate support and ensure the best possible outcomes for students.
The more students who complete the survey, the better our understanding will be. The survey is being sent to undergraduate and postgraduate students as it is important we get feedback from our entire student body.
A link to the survey will be sent to you by email and you can complete it online from Monday 25 May.
The survey should take 15 minutes to complete and your responses are confidential.
To say thanks for completing the survey, we are giving away three amounts of $75 each week as well as two amounts of $500 at the end of the two weeks as a contribution towards your living expenses.
Once you complete the survey, you’ll go into the draw and recipients will be selected at random.
The survey closes at 11.59 pm on Sunday 7 June 2020.

YOU. The Student Wellbeing Survey 2020
YOU. The Student Wellbeing Survey 2020 was sent to all first-year undergraduate students at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington. Second-year undergraduate students will also receive a follow-up iteration of the survey, if they indicated they wished to stay involved.
This is a long-term project, and by reaching out to students twice a year for each year you study at Victoria University of Wellington, we hope to understand more about how wellbeing impacts student experience, including the courses you are taking, the grades you get, and eventually, the time it takes to complete your degree. The more students who complete the survey, the better our understanding will be.
Insights from the survey will be used to help improve the University’s learning environment and support services.
Student Voice—Getting Started
The Student Voice—Getting Started survey was sent to all new students in March 2020.
The survey captures our students’ initial impressions of life on campus, as well as asking about their enrolment and orientation experience.
The surveys are an important tool to help inform decision-making across the university and support a continuous cycle of improvement for current and future students.
The results will be available later this year.
In 2020, we will invite students to participate in the following surveys:
- Getting Started—for all students new to Victoria University of Wellington in 2020.
- YOU. Student Wellbeing survey—for all new undergraduate students and returning participants.
- SERU-I survey—an international benchmarking survey for all undergraduate students.
- Undergraduate experience survey—for all undergraduate Victoria University of Wellington students.
