Street parades
The street parades are a highlight of our graduation celebrations. We encourage all graduates to take part in the parade for their faculty.
Parade date and time
The date and time of the parade you will attend will be sent to you at the same time as your confirmed ceremony date and time.
2023 parade dates
Parade 1—12 pm, Tuesday 16 May

- Wellington Faculty of Architecture and Design Innovation
- Wellington Faculty of Health
Parade 2—12 pm, Thursday 18 May
- Wellington Faculty of Engineering
- Wellington Faculty of Science
- New Zealand School of Music—Te Kōkī
- Wellington Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
- Wellington Faculty of Education
Assembly point
Each parade will leave the Law School, Government Buildings, Lambton Quay at 12 pm.
Arrive at 11.30 am and assemble behind your faculty sign, wearing your academic dress.
Graduation parade route
We will walk from the Law School along Lambton Quay and Willis Street, before turning down Mercer Street and into Te Ngākau Civic Square.
At this point there will be speeches that congratulate all graduates.

Safety information
The parade is for graduates only. For legal and safety reasons, family and friends must remain on the footpaths.
While the southbound lane of the parade route will be closed, the northbound lane will remain open for traffic. The bus lane on Lambton Quay will be open to buses while the parade assembles and processes.
Cancellation procedures
The decision to cancel the parade will be made by 11 am, based on the information available to us at that time.
If the parade is cancelled, notices will be placed on the Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington Facebook page and on our website on the morning of the parade.
