Eligibility
Wana is open to undergraduate students who:
- are studying in their second year or above
- are enrolled at Te Herenga Waka during Trimesters 1 and 2, 2026
- can commit to the full programme schedule
- are willing to engage openly, respectfully, and consistently.
International and domestic students are welcome to apply.
Students commencing study at Te Herenga Waka in Trimester 2 or studying on exchange in Trimester 2 are not eligible for this programme.
Who are we looking for—is Wana right for you?
Wana is designed to stretch, support, and inspire you—you don’t need to have held formal leadership roles.
We’re looking for students who:
- are curious, openminded, and willing to learn
- show emerging leadership potential in any form
- care about their communities
- ask questions, challenge ideas, and explore possibilities
- contribute positively to the spaces they’re in
- are willing to engage respectfully with diverse perspectives
- want to build confidence and capability.

Shortlisting and interviews
Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend a small panel style interview in person on Tuesday 19 May 2026.
Final selection
If you are successful you will be notified by early to mid June, and will be provided with induction details, commitments, and preparation guidance.
Programme start
Wana will kick off with an Induction Day on Wednesday 8 July 2026—10am to 4pm and runs throughout Trimester 2 to mid-October 2026.
