Speaking up about sexually harmful behaviour

It takes a lot of courage to speak up about sexual harm but there are ways to do this and support is available.

If you want to talk to someone about your experience and find out more information about reporting options or support available, you or your support person can contact the Tauria—Student Interest and Conflict Resolution team in confidence.

You can decide whether you want to take any further steps after meeting with them. They can also provide you with more information about the Police reporting process if you wish.

Make a disclosure

Disclosures are reports of sexually harmful behaviour where you do not wish for the Tauria—Student Interest and Conflict Resolution team to take any action. Here are some things you should know about making a disclosure.

  • You can choose whether to identify yourself.
  • You can change your mind later and use the other processes available to students too.
  • You can make a disclosure to the Tauria—Student Interest and Conflict Resolution team by email, in person, or over the phone. You can use the online reporting tool at the bottom of this page if you wish to remain anonymous.
  • We won’t take any further steps without your consent—unless there’s an immediate and serious risk to you or someone else. Whenever possible, we’ll do this with you and keep you involved.

Confidentiality

  • Anything you share with the University about sexual harm is treated confidentially.
  • Your information is managed under the Sexual Harassment Response Policy and Procedure and the University’s Privacy Notice.
  • You stay in control. We respect your choices about what happens next, wherever possible. We may need to act without your consent only if there’s a serious and immediate risk to you or someone else so that we can ensure everyone is safe.
  • We won’t share your details with family, other staff in the university, or anyone else unless you ask us to.
  • If you choose to make a formal complaint, it is important that you and your support people understand that such processes need to be confidential to respect the privacy rights of everyone involved.
