From minds to culture, and back again

Professor Fischer discusses the reasons why our cultures value different things, work together in different ways and have different ideas about happiness.

Inaugural lecture—Professor Ronald Fischer

August 2018

How have our minds enabled us to develop such fascinating diversity in our cultures, and how has this cultural diversity influenced how we think, feel and behave?

In this lecture, Professor Ronald Fischer outlines a psychological world map. Using this map, he will consider some of the reasons for why, despite our shared identity as Homo sapiens, our cultures value different things, work together in different ways and have different ideas about happiness.

This is Professor Fischer's inaugural lecture as Professor of Psychology at Victoria University of Wellington.
