Facilities for staff
We have a range of facilities available to staff, which help enhance and support the enjoyment of working at Victoria University of Wellington.
Victoria University of Wellington staff and postgraduate students have access to two staff Early Childhood Education Centres that provide care and education for preschool aged children:
- Kea House, 2 Clermont Tce (30 places)
- Tui House, 4 Clermont Tce (30 places)
Priority is given to present or past users of the centres.
Children can attend from 3 months to 5 years old, on a 5 mornings / 5 afternoons or full time basis; all enrolments are permanent and for a full year.
The curriculum is based on Te Whaariki: the Early Childhood Curriculum, and a high quality care and education programme is provided catering for individual needs within a group care environment.
Snacks and lunch are provided, though young children bring their own formula.
We are also offering free early childhood education to all 3–4 year olds with completed attestation forms.
A waiting list operates and it is currently substantial; it is advisable to place your child/children on it well before you are returning to work, though this will still not ensure you get a place.
Healthcare and shops
The main Kelburn campus offers a range of facilities including cafés, health services for students, theatres for dramatic performances, creches, and recreation and cultural facilities. Te Aro and Pipitea campuses are centrally located in Wellington city.
Gym and recreation centre
Drop by the Recreation Centre in Kelburn or Pipitea Fitness at Rutherford House to find out how we can support you with our extensive range of facilities and services. These include indoor and outdoor spaces for a range of sports, two fitness centres, group exercise classes and organised sports leagues.
Victoria University of Wellington offers some limited subsidised parking for permanent staff at a reasonable cost, although there is a waiting list.
There are a range of accessible ways to travel between our campuses on foot, by bike, or on public transport.
