The beauty of uncertainty
Professor Ivy Liu, from the School of Mathematics and Statistics, presents her inaugural lecture.
Uncertainty is everywhere, either in everyday decisions or the data we work with. In her inaugural lecture, Professor Ivy Liu shares how uncertainty became the heart of her research and how it has shaped her academic journey. Even when data are messy, there are still patterns to be found. Professor Liu offers insights into these patterns through her long research journey focused on categorical data.
Professor Liu shows the surprising interdisciplinary impact of her work, including the assessment of fairness in educational tests and the analysis of surveys when the respondents could tick all items that apply. Her research has been recognized and supported by numerous external grants.
This is Professor Liu's inaugural lecture as Professor of Statistics at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington.
