Big lessons from little things

Professor Wilson discusses his latest research on adolescent wellbeing

Inaugural lecture—Professor Marc Wilson

September 2017

Psychology is among the most popular courses of university study—in part because we all have a ‘psychology’, and the question of how our psychology relates to our behaviour is an intrinsically interesting one. What does unrelated ‘everyday’ behaviour such as choosing what to eat, who to vote for, and behaving in ways that we know will cause us harm, have in common?

Professor Marc Wilson will draw a thread through examples of research on these ‘little things’ of everyday life, to highlight some of the psychological foundations shared by our behaviour. He will also discuss his latest research on adolescent wellbeing.

This presentation includes discussion of self-injury and suicide.

This is Professor Wilson’s inaugural lecture as Professor of Psychology.
