I believe that representation for any population is one of the most powerful forms of bringing change. Through my candidacy and intended election I hope to not only properly and thoroughly represent my peers but to assist in bringing needed change within the academic institution. Beyond academics, constituency gives me ample opportunity to interact with and hear from the people around me. The proverbial village does not start and end in childhood, it extends into education and the wider community beyond adolescence and adulthood, and being given the privilege to be a pillar within that village is a long-term goal of mine. Being a part of student council in high school gave me insight into the importance of leadership in the student body. Back in my hometown I got to take part in state led events and meetings where I was granted the ability to speak directly to policymakers and improve their and my own perspective on various issues for students within the city. Through speaking to the Indigenous, pākehā, and fellow immigrant members of the student body, I aspire to properly act in the best interest of my peers and to assist in the long-term equity of our body.
