Master of Arts

The MA can be studied within the School in Asian Studies, Chinese, Classical Studies, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Spanish or Literary Translation Studies.

Prospective MA applicants should contact the School’s postgraduate coordinator to discuss their plans. All proposals must be approved by the relevant staff and reviewed by the School’s research committee.

Master of Arts in Literary Translation Studies

Students undertaking the MA in Literary Translation Studies research the theory and practice of literary translation. This MA is by thesis only and can follow one of two formats: 1. a theoretical stream, where the main body of the thesis consists of the critical assessment of a particular theory of translation accompanied by a case study; 2. a practical stream, where the main body of the thesis consists of an actual translation accompanied by a critical component. Topics reflect the languages and cultures taught in the School and the research profiles of staff.

Master of Intercultural Communication and Applied Translation

The 180-point Master of Intercultural Communication and Applied Translation offers students the opportunity to take their bilingual or multilingual skills to the next level.

Doctor of Philosophy

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) thesis is a major piece of original research. The minimum period of registration before a PhD thesis can be submitted for examination is 36 months full-time (or equivalent). The PhD can be completed within the School in Asian Studies, Chinese, Classical Studies, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Pacific Studies, Spanish or Literary Translation Studies.
