Ancient Greek and Latin at VUW

Study Ancient Greek and Latin online through the University of Otago, with full credit towards your BA and Classics major at VUW.

These courses are designed for flexible online learning and include in-person tutorial support from VUW Classics staff.

From 2025, VUW students can enrol in Greek and Latin language courses through Otago University. These courses:

  • count towards your VUW qualification, including the Classics major
  • are delivered online, with flexible, self-paced learning
  • include weekly tutorials with VUW staff to support your learning.

Course information

Trimester 1

  • GREK 111
  • LATN 111.

These beginner-level courses are fully online and include:

  • one hour per week of live workshops via Zoom
  • self-paced materials (videos, worksheets, readings)
  • one hour per week of additional tutorial support from VUW staff.

Trimester 2

  • GREK 112
  • LATN 112.

These courses build on Trimester 1 and follow the same format, with continued support from both Otago and VUW staff.
