Student-Made French Magazine

FROM CLASSROOM TO PRINT: VUW'S STUDENT-MADE FRENCH MAGAZINE

By Yuri Cerqueira dos Anjos

This online magazine showcases a creative, hands-on project developed by students in Advanced French at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington. Over several weeks in our LANG301 course, students collaborated to research, write, edit, and design original articles in French on contemporary social, cultural, and historical issues, culminating in the production of a fully realised magazine.

Blending language learning with book history and creative practice, the project invited students to engage not only with the French language and the journalistic style, but with the material process of publishing itself: from collaborative writing workshops to hands-on printing at the University’s Wai-te-Ata Press. The result is a magazine that reflects both linguistic skill and collective curiosity, offering readers a glimpse into how language learning can be creative, collaborative, and deeply connected to the wider world.

We invite you to explore the magazine and discover how students transformed language study into a shared cultural artefact.
