Profile

Originally from Uruguay, Mariel has lived in Edinburgh (Scotland) and Seville (Spain) while completing her masters. At the University of Edinburgh, she focused on analysing cultural diversity in children’s literature in translation. At Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, she is expanding this research by delving into young adult literature. Mariel’s thesis aims to bring awareness to how few Latin American titles are translated into English and to the lack of cultural representation in translation in general.
