Profile

Christabel Marshall is a PhD candidate in Classics at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. She holds a Master of the Arts with distinction from the same institution. Her current research takes Kimberley Crenshaw’s Intersectionality and uses concepts derived from it to explore the varying oppressions and social placement of characters in the highly politically charged oeuvre of Ovid, a major Latin poet from the time of emperor Augustus. Previous areas of study include: Myth and Literature, Sex and Gender, Latin Poetry, Christian Martyrs, Sexual Satire, Erotic Elegy; amongst many other varied topoi in the ancient and medieval world (in Latin, Greek, Old English, and Old Norse).
