SCPS events for schools
Find out about outreach educational programmes in chemistry and physics.
Our outreach programme
The School of Chemical and Physical Sciences offers outreach educational programmes in chemistry and physics. These programmes give high-school students the chance to visit the University and experience the excitement of experimental chemistry and physics in a tertiary educational environment. The programme is for students who have a strong interest in these sciences and who enjoy a challenge.
If you are a secondary school teacher and would like to receive up-to-date emails about our events, contact Kara Eaton (kara.eaton@vuw.ac.nz).
Our outreach events include:
- Chemistry NZIC Quiz
- Physics Senior Lab Experience Days
- Chemistry Senior Lab Experience Days

NZIC Quiz and Chemistry Scholarship Titration Competition
The annual New Zealand Institute of Chemistry (Wellington Branch) Chemistry Quiz is hosted in association with Victoria University of Wellington. The events are open to teams from all secondary schools in the greater Wellington area.
Physics Teachers' Day
Physics Teachers' Day is an opportunity for high-school physics teachers to participate in a variety of hands-on sessions in the lab, experiments that could potentially be re-created in your classroom, a panel/group discussion on promoting physics among students, and the chance to hear from some former VUW students in their start-up journey.
Chemistry Teachers' Day
ChemEd BioLive was held from 13 to 15 November 2024.
This conference gave teachers of chemistry, biology and science a chance to connect, gain inspiration from both national and international speakers, and experience some of Wellington’s scenic, scientific, and cultural highlights.
These days provide an opportunity for teachers to network and learn from each other, think about some of the latest developments in their discipline, and discuss topical educational matters.
