Forecasting Health Workforce and Needs

Emmanuel has been modelling with various health data and more recently in health workforce at the Ministry of Health.

In the presentation, Emmanuel will discuss:

  • How the health workforce forecasting modelling methodology has evolved from the very first version developed in 2015;
  • Measure of health needs in primary care and its applications for policies;
  • Development methodology of patient centred health services accessibility index for measuring a rurality for GP trainee allocations.

Emmanuel Jo specialises in mathematical modelling and Big Data in health workforces. His expertise includes turning real-world situations into mathematical models, providing health workforce models for government health initiatives and policies.

Emmanuel studied Operations Research (Decision Science). In the year 2000 he joined American multinational information technology equipment and services company Electronic Data Systems (EDS) (now the Hewlett-Packard Company) as a mathematical modeller working on a variety of commercial and government IT projects. He joined the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) in 2004 and moved to the Ministry of Health in 2006.

Currently Emmanuel is an Honorary Lecturer in Medicine at School of Medicine, University of Auckland, and leads the Analytics and Modelling Section, Health Workforce, Ministry of Health New Zealand.
