Take a tour of our three campuses and halls of residence around the city as well as other facilities on campus.
Use our free looping bus service to visit Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington’s campuses and halls of residence. Be sure to look for buses with “Victoria University of Wellington Open Day” signage.
These hop-on/hop-off buses will depart Kelburn campus regularly from Gate 3 (under the overbridge on Kelburn Parade). The first bus departs at 9 am and the final bus at 3 pm.
From Kelburn campus, the bus heads to Katharine Jermyn, Joan Stevens and Boulcott Halls, Stafford House, Pipitea campus, Te Aro campus, Capital and Willis Street Halls then Victoria House before returning to Kelburn.
Allow plenty of time in your schedule as the bus timetable is traffic dependent.
Forty-five minute walking tours of Kelburn campus leave from the info hub (Level 1, the Hub) at 9.15 am, 10.15 am, 11.15 am, 12.15 pm, 1.15 pm and 2.15 pm.
Thirty-minute walking tours of Pipitea campus will leave from the info hub, ground floor, Rutherford House at 11.30 am, 12.30 pm and 1.30 pm.
Te Aro campus
Regular walking tours of Te Aro campus will leave from the ground floor atrium throughout the day between 9 am and 3 pm.
Language Learning Centre
Tours of the Language Learning Centre will depart from outside HMLT103, Hugh Mackenzie building on the hour from 9 am until 2 pm.
Twenty-minute tours of the Library will depart at 11am, noon and 1 pm from Info Ihonui, Level 2, Library entrance, the Hub.
Malaghan Institute of Medical Research
Meet at the Malaghan Institute expo desk in the Alan MacDiarmid building for a 45-minute tour of the Malaghan Institute. Tours leave at 9.30 am and 12.30 pm, and are limited to 15 people.
A short tour of the University theatre on Fairlie Terrace will depart at 9 am and 1 pm from outside MCLT101, Maclaurin building.
Te Toki a Rata
Check out our newest building, Te Toki a Rata, home to our School of Biological Sciences. 30 minute tours will depart in the Cotton corridor at 10.15 am and 1 pm.
University Recreation Wellington
Pop into the Recreation Centre, between 9 am and 3 pm, to meet our friendly University Recreation team and check out the facilities.
Get involved in the Club House between 10 am and 2 pm, where representatives from our clubs will demonstrate their skills.
Halls of residence tours
Throughout the day, you can take short tours of Capital Hall, Joan Stevens Hall, Boulcott Hall, Katharine Jermyn Hall, Stafford House, Te Puni Village, Victoria House, Weir House and Willis Street Halls.
The tours do not have scheduled start times but will operate regularly from the halls’ receptions areas. You can visit some of these halls on our looping buses on Open Day, or find your own way using the maps provided.
Hall tour times

- Friday 21 August, 9 am to 3pm
- Saturday 22 August by appointment only—book directly with the hall you would like to visit.
Helen Lowry Hall
To visit Helen Lowry Hall, you can take a shuttle. The shuttle will operate every half hour between 9 am and 3 pm, leaving from Gate 2, outside Robert Stout building. Look for signs near Gate 2.
