New Students’ Orientation

Nau mai, haere mai, welcome. Each trimester, the University runs New Students’ Orientation to welcome all new students and get you off to the best start.

Whether you're coming straight from school, returning to study as a mature student, starting your first degree, transferring from another tertiary institution, or beginning a postgraduate qualification—our New Students' Orientation events are here to support your journey from day one.

Pasifika Orientation

Pasifika Orientation begins on Friday 13 February 2026. It's an opportunity for you to connect with other new Pasifika students, and meet Pasifika staff who will be part of your journey while at university. There will be a formal welcome—for new students and their āiga—from 6–8 pm on Monday 16 February 2026.

Halls orientation—Tau Mai Week

Living in a hall of residence in your first year? You'll move in on Sunday 8 February 2026, and Tau Mai kicks off the next day. Tau Mai includes hall-based sessions designed to help you settle you into your new home and city, and give you a good foundation for starting your studies.
