Tutoring opportunities deepened Cassandra’s interest in HR, building confidence and capability that now shape her impact as People and Culture Advisor.
After beginning my studies in Management at the University of Auckland, I discovered a strong interest in Human Resource Management and Employment Relations. Wanting to explore this area further, I transferred to Victoria University of Wellington’s School of Management — a decision that became one of the most valuable for my personal and professional development.
Through the School of Management, I developed valuable skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, and confidently communicating complex ideas — capabilities that continue to shape how I approach challenges in my career today. While the courses provided a strong theoretical foundation, it was the opportunities offered by the school, particularly through tutoring, that became some of the most impactful experiences shaping my career journey.
One of the highlights of my time at Victoria University was tutoring MGMT101 and later becoming Head Tutor for HRER207. Initially, it was something I never imagined myself doing, but the experience helped me build confidence in communicating complex ideas, facilitating discussions, and supporting others’ learning. It was especially rewarding to see students grow in confidence and develop their own perspectives throughout the course.
Seeing the impact I can have on others’ development reinforced my interest in pursuing a career in Human Resources. Today, as a People and Culture Advisor at Rocket Lab, I continue to draw on the knowledge, experiences, and confidence I gained at the School of Management — foundations that still shape the way I approach my work today.
