Janet Kong
Identity, Self-Definition, and Performance-Based Identity at Work
Email: janet.kong@vuw.ac.nz
Supervisor: Dr Ben Walker
Profile
Janet’s PhD investigates how individuals understand and define themselves through their work. Her research examines the content and complexity of work-related identity, including how roles, work experiences, and evaluations of performance may become meaningful to self-definition. A particular focus is performance-based identity: how individuals may incorporate personally meaningful understandings of performance into who they are. The project aims to advance conceptual clarity in identity research and develop a stronger foundation for studying identity in organisational settings.
