Welcome from the Head of the School of Management.
Behind every major achievement in the world of business, government and the community is great management. Being a great manager involves understanding people – what motivates them, how to communicate with them, lead and empower them. It involves strategic thinking – how to identify and seize opportunities. And it involves skilful decision making – how to analyse problems and identify and implement solutions.
We're proud to be one of New Zealand's top management schools. We are committed to developing excellent teaching, research and engagement with our professional and practitioner communities – in tourism management, management studies and human resource management and employment relations.
In our Management major students develop the strategic thinking, decision-making, and communication skills necessary to lead organizations to success. In our Human Resource and Employment Relations major students learn how to effectively manage the most valuable asset of any organization – its people. And in our Tourism Management major students gain a deep understanding of tourism operations, visitor behaviour, and sustainable development in this dynamic industry. We also lead a major in Sustainability and Ethics in Business, where students explore pathways to responsible resource use and reduced environmental impact.
A School of Management major opens doors to a wide array of career paths. Our graduates excel as entrepreneurs, business analysts, policy analysts, tourism managers, human resource specialists, and more.
Our research strengths include new perspectives on management and leadership, employment relations, systems, strategy and innovation, and tourism. We are home to the Brian Picot Chair in Ethical Leadership, which contributes to more transparent and ethically sound private and public sectors.
