New Zealand New and Emerging Community Research Award

Masters of Development Studies thesis student Priyanca Radhakrishnan has been awarded one of six 'New Zealand New and Emerging Community Research Awards' to support her thesis research.

Priyanca's research represents the first investigation into the experiences of survivors of forced or arranged marriages in Aotearoa New Zealand. It aims to contribute to legislative change which could enhance protection for the young women usually affected.

The award - made by The Tangata Whenua, Community and Voluntary Sector Research Centre - includes a research grant and funded trip to Auckland to present her work at the centre's annual Community Research Seminar (November 16–17 2011). Priyanca is supervised by Sara Kindon.
