Transnational Identity & Faith-Based Consumerism: an investigation into pilgrim identities & faith-based hospitality architecture in 21st century pilgrim towns
My doctoral research can be described as an investigation into transnational identities and faith-based consumerism from the perspective of the built environment. It is an exploration conducted at the intersection of philosophies such as architecture, economics, politics, class, globalization, spirituality, and identity. The research aims to understand how capitalist globalization and the history of modernism have impacted the relationship between architecture and identity. The history of the international hotel and its relationship with the contemporary faith-focused variant of this typology is central to my doctoral research.
