George Baird’s name is known in architectural teaching throughout the world.

The Toronto architect, academic and author, is giving a public lecture at Victoria University’s Faculty of Architecture and Design on Wednesday.

George’s career spans four decades, his Toronto based architecture firm Baird Sampson Neuert Architects have established a reputation for creative research and design excellence. They have won numerous awards including the 1995 Governor General’s Award for Bay Adelaide Park/ Cloud Gardens Conservatory (pictured).

George has taught at the University of Toronto and Harvard University. He was the 2012 winner of the Topaz Medallion, which is awarded for excellence in architectural education and was the recipient of the 2010 Gold Medal of Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.

George is also an established author, the co-editor of Meaning in Architecture, author of Alvar Aalto, The space of Appearance and Public Space: Cultural/ Political Theory; Street Photography. In October 2014 his Writings on Architecture and the City will be published by Artifice Books, London.

George’s lecture will be held in LT1 on 22nd October. Refreshments in the atrium from 5.30, presentation starts at 6pm.
