Student Counselling

Student Counselling (Mauri Ora) provides confidential short-term and solution-focused counselling for students at the University. For most students, it’s free.

Important update—COVID-19

Following government instructions, from Monday 23 March onwards the University's Student Health and Student Counselling (Mauri Ora) services will provide all appointments online or by phone.

All appointment requests or requests for medical advice should be made by calling Mauri Ora on 04 463 5308. Do not come into the practice.

If you are at risk of harm to yourself or concerned about somebody else's immediate safety, call Te Haika on 0800 745 477. If it is an emergency, call 111.

If you are registered with Mauri Ora, we will support your health needs from wherever you are now based in the country. We will be able to make sure you have the medications you need and connect you with your GP or one of our nurses by phone and video consultation.

Duty counselling

Duty counselling will occur by telephone or video between 1 pm and 4 pm each day.

Do not come into Mauri Ora—instead, phone for a duty appointment on 04 463 5308. Explain your need to our receptionist who will allocate an appointment to you. You must be available to take a call between 1 pm and 4 pm. Your counsellor will organise the video link once they have been in touch with you.

If you have an appointment with a counsellor, they will contact you by telephone or video link at your scheduled appointment time. The counsellor will organise the video link once they have been in touch with you.

If you want to make sure we have your correct phone and email details, call reception on 04 463 5308 before your appointment.

Prescription repeats

Prescription repeats for your medication should be requested using the Student Health (Mauri Ora) online form. Let us know where you would like these faxed to as these can no longer be collected from Mauri Ora in person. If you have run out of medication, call Mauri Ora on 04 463 5308 during business hours.

We understand this is a particularly worrying time for students with high health needs. Mauri Ora will continue to provide medical assistance—call 04 463 5308.

We will provide updated information on our website and social media channels.

In an emergency

In an emergency, phone 111, or 8888 if you’re on campus.

For 24/7 urgent mental health support, call Crisis Resolution Services (CRS) Te Haika on 0800 745 477.
