Diseases and vaccinations
Catch-up childhood vaccines
If you grew up in New Zealand, you are likely to have been fully immunised as a child. You can check your vaccine records through the myIndici patient portal. We recommend that you catch up on any missed vaccines. We offer immunisation against:
- measles, mumps, rubella—MMR vaccine
- meningococcal diseases—Menactra and Bexsaro
- pertussis (whooping cough)
- HPV (human papillomaviruses)—Gardasil vaccine
- varicella (chickenpox).
Book an appointment with a nurse if you think you haven't had all of these vaccinations. For some diseases, such as chickenpox, you won't need to be vaccinated if you have already had the disease.
The cost of catch-up vaccinations vary:
- The measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccination is free for all students.
- The Gardasil (HPV) vaccination is free for domestic, Manaaki, or ELTO students who are under 27 years of age.
- If you're a domestic, Manaaki, or ELTO student and are enrolled with Mauri Ora, the cost of any missed childhood vaccinations may be covered by a funded Catch-up Programme.
- If you're an international student, you can pay to be vaccinated against any of these diseases at Mauri Ora.
Meningococcal disease and meningitis
Meningococcal disease is a serious and sometimes fatal infection caused by a number of different bacteria. We strongly recommend that all students are immunised against meningoccal disease, especially those living in Halls of Residence.
If you have not already been vaccinated against meningococcal disease, we encourage you to begin the immunisation cycle as soon as possible to ensure that you are protected at the start of the university year.
You are eligible for free meningococcal vaccinations if:
- you're in your first year of living in a Hall of Residence, and
- you're eligible for publicly funded healthcare (you're a New Zealand resident or hold a Manaaki scholarship), and
- you're aged 13–25 years old.
International students and those living at home or flatting can pay to be vaccinated against meningococcal disease at Mauri Ora.

Influenza (flu)
We recommend that you get the annual influenza vaccine, which is available from 1 April each year. Mauri Ora offers free flu vaccinations for all students.

Travel vaccinations
We can provide immunisations to protect you if you are travelling overseas. We recommend that you book a pre-travel consultation at least eight weeks before you leave to discuss your vaccination needs. You will need to pay for any travel vaccinations.
COVID-19
We are not currently offering COVID-19 vaccinations or boosters at any Mauri Ora location, nor can we book one for you.
