Smoking and vaping

Smoking and vaping can have serious long term effects on your everyday health and quality of life.

Smokers who do not quit have a one in two chance of dying from a smoking-related illness—most commonly lung cancer and other lung diseases such as emphysema, heart disease and stroke.

Vaping products are less harmful than smoking. They can be used as a way to quit smoking. However, vaping can be addictive, so don’t start vaping if you don’t currently smoke. The best thing you can do for your health is to be smokefree and vape free.

Student Health supports all students trying to quit smoking or vaping. Make a 30-minute appointment with a nurse (free for enrolled domestic, Manaaki, or ELTO patients) to seek help and advice on quitting.
