Medical appointments

For most general health concerns, you'll see a doctor or nurse. Standard appointments are 15 minutes and need to be booked in advance.

If you're not sure whether you need to see a doctor or a nurse, or how long an appointment to book, ask the receptionist when you call.

Our team of doctors, nurses, and other health practitioners can help you with a wide range of health concerns, but there are services that we don't offer, including X-rays, dentistry, and physiotherapy.

When to book

You'll need to book in advance—waiting times vary throughout the year, and will be longer during peak periods such as the end of trimester and during exams.

We keep a number of spaces available for same-day, urgent appointments. However, the availability of these spaces is subject to demand.

What to book

Our standard appointments are 15 minutes, but you can book a 30 minute appointment if you have multiple or more complex health concerns. You can choose an in-person or virtual (phone or video call) appointment.

  • You should book a standard 15-minute appointment for most heath concerns.
  • You should book a 30-minute appointment if you have multiple or more complex health concerns.
  • You can book a 30-minute lifestyle and wellbeing consultation with a nurse.
  • If you're planning to travel, you can book a 30-minute travel consultation with a doctor.

You typically don't need to see a doctor in order to get a repeat of an existing prescription.

If you need to consult a doctor or nurse outside of Mauri Ora's operating hours, you can book a virtual consultation with a medical practitioner at Practice Plus.

Cancelling your appointment

Let us know as early as possible if you need to cancel your appointment. Appointments missed or cancelled less than one hour before the appointment time will incur a fee. You can leave a message to cancel after hours.

Emergencies

If you're in an emergency situation, dial 111, or 0800 842 8888 on campus.

Costs

While many routine appointments are free for enrolled domestic, Manaaki, and ELTO students, you'll need to pay for services that go beyond a general consultation. International students will be charged for all services, some of which may be covered by insurance. Refer to your insurance policy to find out more about what is covered.

Lab tests and results

If your doctor or nurse recommends getting a blood (or other) test, they will ask you to go to a medical laboratory testing service. We contact all patients about their test results—even if the results are normal.
