We are one of the leading centres of education and research for Accounting, Taxation, and Commercial Law in the Asia–Pacific region.

Our lecturers and researchers have a reputation for sharing and pursuing knowledge of accounting, taxation, and commercial law—as well as providing a dynamic and inclusive learning environment.

Accreditation

Wellington School of Business and Government is accredited by several prestigious organisations and has strong partnerships with many institutions across New Zealand. Our accounting programmes are accredited by the major professional accounting bodies:

• Chartered Accounts Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ)
• CPA Australia
• Chartered Institute of Management Accountants
• the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants.

We were the first business school in New Zealand to receive accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) for our accounting programme.

We are also the only business school in New Zealand to offer students the ability to complete the CA Program requirements of Chartered Accountants ANZ as part of the Master of Professional Accounting programme.

Research units

Centre for Accounting, Governance, and Taxation Research (CAGTR)

The Centre for Accounting, Governance, and Taxation Research was established in 2001 and has a focus on conducting research in the areas of accounting, governance, and taxation with the aim of advancing knowledge relevant to the accounting and legal professions. The current Director of the centre is Professor Tony van Zijl.

Chair in Public Finance

The Chair in Public Finance was established in 2011 and has the primary task of undertaking policy-relevant research in public finance, engaging with the policy-making community on public finance issues, and helping to build public finance research capability in New Zealand. The Chair is currently held by Professor Norman Gemmell.

Professor in Public Financial Management

The Professor in Public Financial Management was established in 2018 to promote and conduct research into public financial management best practice.  Professor Ian Ball currently holds the position.
