About the Centre

The Centre for Labour, Employment, and Work (CLEW) was a research centre in the Wellington School of Business and Government. CLEW was the leading research organisation in Aotearoa New Zealand on collective bargaining and union membership. It provided a forum for research into employment relations, human resource management, labour markets, and workplace issues.

The Centre’s public education programme included the annual seminars under the title ‘Trends in Employment Agreements and Employment Law Update’ . These seminars were highly valued by practitioners across Aotearoa New Zealand.

CLEW’s multi-disciplinary research group included academics and practitioners from the fields of human resource management, employment relations, law, sociology, economics, psychology, history, information management, and public policy.

The Centre supported research needs in government, business, and NGOs, with particular strengths in quantitative research and survey methodology.

CLEW was previously known as the Industrial Relations Centre. You can read about the history of the Industrial Relations Centre in Centre of Change: 40 Years of Industrial Relations in Review—The Industrial Relations Centre 1970–2010.
