UniQ Te Herenga Waka

A registered charity formally known as The Queer Students' Association of Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington Incorporated.

UniQ is an inclusive and diverse society dedicated to supporting and advocating for queer students across Te Herenga Waka.

We work to create a safe, inclusive, and affirming environment at the university through social events, advocacy, and resources that help promote queer wellbeing on campus.

As a huge advocate for queer students’ interests, we push for positive policy and legislative change through submissions and protest activity while also working to ensure the university is a safe place for all.

We also host and contribute to a significant number of events on campus. At the start of the year, we play an active role in O-Week, the rainbow students welcome, sex week, and more. Throughout the year, we host weekly Friday social spaces in the Rainbow Room (SU209) at Kelburn Campus during the academic term and other advertised events throughout the year.

The most special part of the year for us is around the second week of Trimester 2, where we host our annual Pride Week. We work with Salient to transform it into a special edition called the Queerlient, which our engagement team contributes heavily too. Our Pride Week also includes our largest event of the year, the Gayla—our pride ball, a quiz night, and much more.

UniQ is a student community group dedicated to providing queer students with social support and services that have a positive impact on their health and wellbeing, ensuring that our university is a safe and inclusive environment.
