Events, courses, and programmes
Get involved in our one-off events and try something different. We also offer a range of one-day courses, multi-day programmes, and workshops.
Our six-week healthy lifestyle programme is returning in Trimester 2, 2021. In six weeks our goal is to help you transform your lifestyle through creating regular exercise and healthy eating habits. These new habits will help improve your overall holistic health.
Attend three group functional training classes, one small team PT session per week and have a University Recreation Combo Membership for the duration of the programme.
New To Our Programme - This year is an option to have participate in a three-week taster of the Evo programme for a discounted price. Take away the building blocks to help establish a positive healthy lifestyle.

Australasian University Health Challenge
Each year Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington takes part in a 6-week health-focused challenge across Australia and New Zealand. As the 2019 champions and hosts of 2020 we will be back with a strong team for 2021.
The aim is to help everyone be more active—it’s as easy as signing up on the 10,000 Steps website and recording your daily steps.
Universities across Australia and New Zealand will compete in this challenge and your involvement will contribute towards team Te Herenga Waka.
Round the Bays
Congratulations to all those who joined the Te Herenga Waka team, and took part in Round the Bays 2021.
We will be back in 2022, and welcome all runners and walkers to join team Te Herenga Waka, no matter your age, stage, or level of fitness.

The Hunter Relay
The Hunter Relay challenge will be returning in 2022. Pull together a team of four runners to take on the challenge of The Hunter Relay—a 650m dash down Kelburn Parade, up past the Hunter and Student Union buildings, finishing up in the Tim Beaglehole Courtyard. We want to know who is the quickest club, hall, or faculty.
Social and competitive grades available.
Prizes awarded for fastest laps, fastest hall, fastest club, and best dressed, so get your creative hats on.

4 peaks, 4 weeks
When: Returning in 2022
Start your time at Victoria University of Wellington on the right foot and win.
A challenge for all students, staff and members to get out and explore some of the great views that Wellington has to offer. One lucky participant who climbs four of Wellington’s famous peaks and uploads a photo to Instagram using our hashtag—#4peaks4weeks—will win the ultimate prize. Spot prizes are also up for grabs.

We're promoting health and wellbeing by encouraging all of our students, staff and community to explore 5 of our favourite Wellington bays during the first 30 days of May, and win some amazing prizes along the way!
Share a photo (via post or story) at one of the specified bays and tag us @Unirec_WGTN (Instagram) or @University Recreation Wellington (Facebook), with the caption #5bays30days to be in to win. Make sure your profile is set to public so we can see your entry. Each post is worth one entry; complete all five bays and we’ll double your entries!

Wahine Toa self-defence workshops
University Recreation Wellington regularly holds self-defence courses throughout the year. These courses are open to all self-identifying women and non-binary people.
Gain more confidence in your everyday life—learn ways to be strong and safe in a variety of situations. These courses teach you hits, kicks, holds, and escape techniques, as well as providing tips to help keep you safe.
The next course is Sunday 19 September, 10 am– 4 pm.
Courses run in the MT Foyer, SU229, Student Union Building.
This is a free course for students, but spaces are limited. Only register if you are certain you can attend.
