Advisory Board

Meet the Advisory Board for the Centre for Labour, Employment, and Work.

The purpose of the Centre for Labour, Employment and Work (CLEW) Advisory Board is to enable the Centre to engage in constructive dialogue with influential external stakeholders, in order that the CLEW might receive advice that can help it pursue its mission and achieve its goals.

Board members

Geoff Summers (Chairperson): The Remuneration Authority

Geoff brings a wealth of knowledge and experience of remuneration systems and databases as well as long time experience of human resource management. When he joined the Board, and prior to appointment to the Remuneration Authority, he was an owner, director and principal consultant with Strategic Pay, a market leader in strategic remuneration and performance management.

Professor Jane Bryson: Wellington School of Business and Government

Jane is Dean in the Wellington School of Business and Government and a Professor in the School of Management. She joined the academic staff at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington in 1999. Prior to this she has worked as a Human Resources Manager in the public sector, and as a management consultant for twelve years in New Zealand, Australia and Great Britain.

Dr Simon Chapple: Institute of Governance and Policy Studies (IGPS)

Simon is the Director of the IGPS which is located in the School of Government at Victoria University of Wellington. Simon is an economist with a a long history of working in research and policy advisory roles both in New Zealand and in Europe.

Andrea Fromm: NZ Public Service Association

Andrea joined the Board in 2018. She was connected to the Centre while working at Statistics NZ prior to heading back to Europe for a period and working at Eurofound. Andrea took up a role at NZPSA soon after her return to New Zealand in 2017 and works in their policy and research team. She brings valuable perspectives on current research trends to the Centre.

Peter Kiely: Kiely Thompson Caisley, Employment Lawyers

Peter Kiely is a partner in Kiely Thompson Caisley and a leading specialist in employment law with extensive litigation experience. He is a frequent contributor to academic and practitioner publications on employment law and a highly regarded seminar and conference speaker. Peter has been involved with CLEW, and its predecessor the IRC, with the presentation of its annual seminar series for more than 20 years.

Paul Mackay: Business New Zealand

Paul is the Manager Employment Relations Policy at Business NZ. He has worked extensively in employment relations in the private and public sector including for Carter Holt Harvey Ltd, Transpower, the State Services Commission and MAF. Paul's understanding of the employment relations environment and particular with regard to business management and development provides valuable insight for those at CLEW.

Nick McKissack: Human Resources Institute of New Zealand (HRINZ)

Nick is the Chief Executive of HRINZ and joined the CLEW Advisory Board in 2019. He has a wealth of experience in a variety of Human Resource Management roles and provides CLEW with a valuable link to the HR community.

Dr Rose Ryan: General

Rose took up the role of Manager, Workplace and Workforce in the Evidence and Insights team at MBIE in October 2018. She has had a long association with Victoria University and CLEW, both as a researcher in CLEW's predecessor, the Industrial Relations Centre, and as a lecturer in the School of Management. Rose joined the Board in 2019 and provides a valuable perspective on research needs in government.
