Celebrating our May 2025 graduates

Graduation season is a very special time for Te Kauhanganui Tātai Ture—Faculty of Law, with most law students opting to graduate in the May ceremony.

As always, the emotion, the pride, and the recognition remind us that it is the hard things that are worth doing.

Caitlin Ashby had the honour of delivering the May graduation address this year. Like many Bachelor of Laws students, Caitlin chose to study for a conjoint degree, graduating with a Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honours and a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Film and minoring in Media Studies).

She says she was honoured to be asked to be the graduate speaker. “This was an incredible experience which provided me a brief opportunity to reflect on the real value of my university education, and to thank all the people who have supported me these last five years.”

Caitlin made the most of every opportunity during her time at university—whether as Co-Director of the Rainbow Law Students’ Society or through building strong connections within the legal community during her Summer Research Scholarship. She has now begun her legal career at Chapman Tripp as part of their Auckland-based litigation team and will be admitted to the Bar later this year.

We captured many inspirational stories during graduation week, including Farahnaz Fasihi, an engineer from Iran who, as a mature student with family responsibilities, studied for a Master of International Trade (MInTr) to ensure a better future for her family in Aotearoa New Zealand.
