Inspera Exam Platform

Learn more about the Inspera Exam Platform, which you may need to use for in-person assessments in selected courses.

About Inspera

Inspera is an assessment platform that includes the Inspera Integrity Browser that you will need to download onto your device. Some courses in the Law School at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington will use the Inspera Integrity Browser for in-person final exams from 2026.

Students will sit their exams in a supervised exam room using their own laptop. Using this software helps to ensure the integrity of the University’s assessments.

Assessments on Inspera can include a wide range of question types.

The Council of Legal Education stipulates strict standards of integrity for academic assessments. Inspera Integrity Browser helps our assessments meet educational requirements for admission to the legal practice. If your course has Inspera-based assessment, you will be provided with more information through Nuku and your lecturers.

How Inspera Integrity Browser works

While you are sitting an in-person assessment using the Inspera Integrity Browser, Inspera will lock out other functions on your computer to prevent access to unauthorised websites/chats, files, AI platforms, or other applications.

Get ready for Inspera

Before you sit an assessment through Inspera, you need to have a suitable device on which the Inspera Integrity Browser has been installed and access has been tested. Instructions for installing it will be provided on Nuku.

Equipment you need

You’ll need a laptop running Windows or macOS. Inspera Integrity Browser is not designed for use on Chromebooks, virtual machines, mobile devices or tablets.

Before you install Inspera Integrity Browser (IIB), please check that your laptop has a working internet connection during installation so that the configuration file can be downloaded. System requirements:

  • Windows: 7, 8.1, 10, and 11 on 64-bit platforms
  • MacOS: MacOS version 11 to 15.16.1
  • 500 MB initial installation AND 75 MB of free storage per hour

If you are unsure how to check whether your computer meets these requirements, contact the Digital Solutions helpdesk at +64 4 463 5050 or servicedesk@vuw.ac.nz.

There is no guarantee that exam rooms will have enough power points. If you think your device will not last at least between 2 and 3 hours without being charged, you are welcome to bring your own power-only power bank.

Data privacy on your device

While you’re using the Inspera assessment tool, neither the University nor Inspera can access any personal data on your device.

Inspera stores test-related data on servers within the EU. This means that the data is covered by the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR)—one of the strongest data protection laws in the world.

The University may download and keep test-related data for longer, to meet needs around academic integrity, accreditation, and assurance of learning. The University will keep and delete test-related data in line with general University policies.

Breaches of academic integrity

A team of supervisors will be present for the duration of the exam as per usual. Student activity will be monitored during an exam. Any suspicious activity will be escalated to the relevant course coordinator, who will decide to act in line with the University’s academic misconduct policy.

Help during the exam

If you experience any issues during an exam, you can contact the supervisor in the room who will liaise with Digital Solutions support staff present on site if technical support is required. Instructions will be provided at the start of the exam.
