Career and job search advice appointments

If you are a Victoria University of Wellington student or recent graduate, our career consultants can help you with career planning, decision-making and job applications, from the general exploration of career ideas to targeted careers and job information. Together you can discuss career-related issues such as career direction, study choices, job search, application and employment queries in a 30-minute appointment.

Log in to the University’s CareerHub for our available face-to-face and Zoom appointments. If you’d prefer a phone appointment, please contact careers-service@vuw.ac.nz.

For prospective students, you can be referred for an appointment once you’ve met with the Student Recruitment team.

Job application checks

If you are a Victoria University of Wellington student or recent graduate, we’re available to review and offer feedback on your draft copies of CVs, cover letters, job application forms and scholarship applications via email. If you want to have a general chat about where to start, or how to improve your job applications please book an appointment.

Before using this email review/feedback service, we encourage you to use our CV and cover letter tools and resources:

Start with the CV360 tool first. This tool provides a basic, section-by-section assessment of your CV and advice on improving it.

Note: this tool acts like application tracking systems used by large companies during recruitment. If you have a CV with images, columns or text boxes you may need to either convert your document to a simpler format to optimise the feedback on your CV content.

You are then welcome to email your CV (and any other application documents, in MS Word format) to careers-service@vuw.ac.nz for further checking by a career consultant.

In your email tell us:

  • your degree, majors and stage of study e.g. final year
  • your target career area
  • the title of the role you are applying for and the name of the organisation. Ideally provide a job description or a weblink to it.
  • what documents the employer has asked for e.g. CV, cover letter, application form
  • the application closing date.
