David writes: 'I'd thought about applying for the MA in Scriptwriting for a few years, and I knew people who'd done it and raved about it. I finally applied and was very pleased to be accepted. I expected a challenging and rigorous course and that’s what I got. I learned more about writing than I thought I would and came away with writing tools that will serve me for as long as I write. The best thing about it was simply that Ken and the class pushed me to write better. It was a year well spent, and I'm proud of what I achieved.'

Bio: David's work spans the screen, museum, and education sectors. He's won awards for screenwriting and is an award-nominated producer. He's worked across TV drama and comedy, feature film, and TV and feature documentary. He led Te Papa's exhibition writing team, taught screen production at Whitireia Polytechnic, and is a Learning Designer at Open Polytechnic.

He was nominated for awards for best comedy script for both Lovebites and The Strip, and won awards for best drama script for The Insiders Guide to Happiness and its sequel The Insiders Guide to Love. Both shows won numerous awards including best drama series.

He created and wrote the drama The Hothouse, and co-wrote the mystery-thriller The Cult. Both series won a host of accolades including best drama nominations. He wrote for the UK children's series Paradise Café, co-wrote the feature film The Hopes and Dreams of Gazza Snell, and wrote the feature film Lowdown Dirty Criminals. He also wrote the innovative WWI documentary series War News, and the docudrama Doubt: The Scott Watson Case.

He co-produced the multi-award-nominated feature documentary Pecking Order, and created and co-produced the award-nominated series He Paki Taonga i a Māui.

As head of Te Papa's exhibition writing team, he worked on a number of award-winning exhibitions, including Rongowhakaata: The Story of Light and Shadow, Bug Lab, and Te Taiao | Nature. As screen production tutor at Whitireia Polytechnic he developed and produced numerous student short films.

He also owns Te Wuruhi | Lean Dog Ltd, which specialises in bilingual interpretive content for open spaces like parks and trails. The company has worked extensively with Wellington City Council.
