Bachelor of Arts with Honours in History

The BA Honours degree offers students the chance to work in small group seminars discussing key historiographical debates and historical problems.

Students study four courses, including HIST 489—a 10,000-word independent research essay course where you work closely with a supervisor. Most History Honours courses convene around once a fortnight during Trimesters 1 and 2.

Students with at least a strong B average may apply for Honours.

The History Programme particularly values the BA Honours year. As well as providing enrolled students with a dedicated Honours Room, we also convene Honours workshops. Several of our students have published articles based on their Honours research.

The BA Honours degree is essential to apply for the Master of Arts by thesis or PhD by thesis degrees.
