Profile

PhD Working Title: The New Zealand Home Guard & Women’s Auxiliary Services, 1939-1945

Noah has always held a keen interest in the history of the First and Second World War, this was instrumental in driving him to pursue a deeper understanding of these major conflicts. Noah attended Boise State University to undertake his dream of becoming a schoolteacher, graduating Magna Cum Laude with his BA in History/Secondary Education in 2019. His professional experiences teaching at the Primary, Intermediate, and Secondary levels allowed him to hone his educational practice and develop the skills necessary to begin his postgraduate work. He remained at Boise State University to begin his MA in History, deciding to focus on Society and Home Defence during the Second World War. Noah completed his MA thesis We May Not Be Goliath but We Have David’s Sling: Media and Perception of the New Zealand Home Guard, 1940-1942 in 2021, deciding afterwards to further his education through a Ph.D. at Te Herenga Waka-Victoria University of Wellington.

Noah’s research interest focus is the impact of the Second World War on the New Zealand Home Front, specifically through its Home Guard and multiple Women’s Auxiliary Services. He seeks to better understand the interconnected wartime relationship between these organisations, the evolution of women’s wartime roles and their active auxiliary service, and the popular perception of these organisations both during and after the Second World War.
