Profile
Thesis working title: The AI intervention in the power ecosystem of digital media through online communications: a case study on the power asymmetry in digital activism communities
I am passionate about the intersectional studies of media & communication and politics. I studied civil engineering and journalism during my undergraduate, and developed my academic interests in social movements, power, political communication, and media studies. I have study experience in University of Amsterdam, Goldsmiths, University of London, the University of Sheffield, University of California, Berkeley, Nanjing Forestry University, and Nanjing Normal University.
My current research: I assume that the AI application in digital media can facilitate a shift of power across the physical world and digital society, lead to a problematic continuation of power asymmetry, further drive digital media platforms as digital colonialism, and accelerate the AI hegemony of digital society and the real world. To investigate how AI intervenes in the power ecosystem of digital society, I am going to start with online communication and limit the power research within digital activism organizations as the virtual commons-based open space. In brief, this research will mainly focus on AI hegemony, digital society, and power.
