Tangata Whenua celebrates the art of translation
Te Herenga Waka's MAOR 311 advanced language students led by Mike Ross teamed up with Wai-te-ata Press, the NZ Centre for Literary Translation, and the International Institute of Modern Letters to translate a selection of Ōrongohau | Best New Zealand Poems (2002-2024) in Te Reo Māori. This landmark publication features a cast of NZ's most beloved Māori writers and a new generation of amazing literary translators. As noted Te Reo translator Hēmi Kelly (Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāti Tahu - Ngāti Whaoa) rhapsodises: "we are treated to two languages side by side. Each nourishing in its own way, each offering a subtle yet distinct flavour... He taonga tēnei pukapuka!"
