The Library trials databases to get feedback on them from the University community and assess whether they should be added to the Library’s collection.

The database trials on the Library website are in line with the Collection Development and Management Policy.

  • Policy Commons

    A searchable index of policy documents and guidelines, think tanks, IGOs and NGOs publications and working papers from over 30,000 organisations. Search results will provide links out to the original publishers as well as hosted documents and data.

  • Bloomsbury Music and Sound

    Bloomsbury Popular Music and Sound Studies digital hub. Exclusive reference materials on influential artists, genres, and eras. Features handbooks, textbooks, and biographies alongside interactive features such as timelines and maps.

  • Bloomsbury Dress & Costume Library

    Part of Bloomsbury Fashion Central, this library contains ebooks, encyclopedias, articles and videos on the history of dress and constume design.  From the Ancient World to the 21st Century.

  • CNBKSY Database - 全国报刊索引

    This is an extended trial of the Shanghai library's resources until December 2024.  The available databases are:

    • The Late-Qing Dynasty Periodical Full-text Database (1816~1911): Containing over 600 titles of periodicals published in the late-Qing Dynasty.
    • The Chinese Periodical Full-text Database (1911~1949): Over 10,000 titles of periodicals published in Modern China.
    • The Chinese and English Newspaper of Modern China: Nearly 1,000 titles of English and Chinese newspapers published in Modern China.
    • The Books of Modern China (1840~1949): Over 120,000 titles of books in Modern China, covering books in politics, economy, law and literature, as well as textbooks and children’s book; all OCR-ed.
    • Chinese Periodical of Modern China—Literature Collection (1872~1949): 278 literature periodicals.
    • Chinese Periodical of Modern China—Film Collection (1921~1949): 325 titles of cinematic periodicals.
