China, Climate Change and the International Negotiations for a Post-2012 Agreement

The New Zealand Contemporary China Research Centre and the Institute of Public Policy co hosted a Roundtable on China, Climate Change and the International Negotiations for a Post-2012 Agreement. China's Ambassador for Climate Change Ambassador Yu Qingtai on China’s negotiation position, followed by presentations by Dr Zeng Shaojun of CCIEE in Beijing, Professor Xiaoming Huang of Victoria University of Wellington on the domestic dimensions of China’s climate change policy.

Held in Oceania Room, Te Papa on 18th May, this series of seminars was co-hosted by the Institute of Policy Studies, the New Zealand Climate Change Research Institute, and the New Zealand Contemporary China Research Centre, Victoria University of Wellington.

Ambassador Yu Qintai, along with representatives of public sectors, private sectors as well as academics from both New Zealand and China discussed the two countries’ perceptions and policies on climate change. Dr Zeng Shaojun, International Economic Exchange and Tshinghua University, Beijingg (CCIEE), Yang Aillun, Climate Campaign Manager for Green Peace in China and Dr Katherine Morton, Australian National University, Canberra further clarified Chinese climate change issues and solutions perceived by Chinese enterprises and NGOs.

The Roundtable was held along with a series of public seminars by invited speakers for the event as well as a business roundtable organized with Business New Zealand.
