National Poetry Day

Anō te kupu!

NZ National Poetry Day 2014 was celebrated in style on 22 August at Wai-te-ata Press : Te Whare tā o Waiteata with a collaborative poetry project. Fourteen members of the Vic community translated Māori, Italian, and English words into a handprinted ‘found’ poem. Each person contributed and handset one line of text using the Press’s collection of historic lead types, learned about the letterpress process, and helped to create some visual magic on the page. The day culminated in a ‘flash’ reading, each line being read in sequence, then all lines read together simultaneously. Behold the sound of words!
