Wan Solwara host to student work

In his own words: These ten artworks take you on a journey through stories of resistance, reclamation, and renewal. Together, they critique colonial narratives and confront the disciplining of bodies under patriarchy. They challenge the exoticisation of Pacific women and Fakaleiti in Tonga, reclaiming the right to self-definition and expression. Moving through the cycles of life and death, the works trace both the pain and the joy that shape our existence.  My practice is rooted in the act of remembering, honouring what has been lost, suppressed, or reimagined. Each piece holds space for the in-between, where identities are fluid and boundaries blur. This body of work celebrates the beauty of existing beyond fixed categories and expectations. It is the embodiment of my persistence to learn, to unlearn, and to find power in vulnerability. These works are not only reflections of my journey, but also an invitation to walk alongside it, to see, feel, and question what it means to exist.
